The Beatles Lyrics

My Beatles  Lyrics Page
by Chuck Ayoub, 7/19/2006

After seeing the success of my Pearl Jam Lyrics page and how it was ranking number one in many search engines - I thought it would be a hoot to see if I could get a major band to rank #1.  And there was no bigger band than The Beatles.

The first task was to start gathering the lyrics.  Not an easy assignment considering their library was over 200 songs.  Once I had the lyrics - I put the site out on the web.  I had some initial visitors but only because I was helping the site by posting a link to it on the main page of my Pearl Jam site.

Over time the site start getting more hits but not in the thousands like my Pearl Jam page was getting.  But I had a feeling the people that were finding my little 'ol site must have been hard core fans and probably would have stayed on my site longer if I had more material to read.

I started researching all I could on each song and surprisingly - it seems there was enough information out there to write a small novel on just about each one.  So I went song for song, and posted facts, lead singer, and studio anomalies for each.

Next, I added a Beatles biography page.  But one page could hardly cover The Beatles, so I added a biography for each of the members - John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison.  Then I added a second biography for each member of the band.

Next came a Beatles Video and Sound page, a clues page to the Paul is Dead hoax, Beatle interviews, and much more.  For the final touch, I put a short 20 second rare Beatles sound byte as background noise to each major section on the site.

I finally had enough info to even tire the most ardent Beatles fan.

With the feeling that I now had the best Beatles site on the planet (yes that's right, the BEST) - I submitted it to the Yahoo directory and to DMOZ, which both accepted it quickly.  I then began doing all the boring things to get my page to rank higher in search engines, I'll spare you the details here because I could right an entire book on it.

The final outcome is that my Beatles page, when searching for The Beatles Lyrics, once ranked as high as #2 on Google, and at the time of this writing - ranks #1 in Yahoo,  #1 in MSN Search, and has even exceeded my Pearl Jam page in popularity and traffic.

Mission accomplished!

One more note - I've setup a Beatles Lyrics Blog to let people share the comments.
